Grand Rapids Sweet Adelines is a barbershop show chorus of women in the Grand Rapids, Michigan area. This fantastic chorus has been reaching audiences in Michigan and all over the world since 1955.
GRSA is an entity of Sweet Adeline's
International, which is a worldwide
organization of women singers committed to advancing the musical art form of
barbershop harmony through education and performances. The Grand Rapids Chorus
continues to be a favorite source of entertainment, especially during the winter
holiday's when they host their annual Holiday show featuring special
entertainers from around the area.
With more than 30,000 members worldwide, Sweet Adelines International is one of
the world’s largest singing organizations for women. The organization features
more than 1200 registered quartets and 600 choruses. Chartered chapters are
located in Australia, Canada, England, Germany, Japan, New Zealand, Scotland,
Sweden, the Netherlands, Wales and most of the 50 states in the United States.
Sweet Adelines Region 3 covers West Michigan, Northern Indiana, and the Chicago
area. Local chapters include Grand Rapids, Battle Creek, Richland, and Grand
Haven.
Sweet Adelines International is active in the education of young people. Their
Young Women in Harmony program offers to music educators a means of including
the study and performance of barbershop harmony in school music programs.
They are also very involved in charitable and community activities. Sweet
Adelines choruses regularly entertain at civic events and charitable functions.
Proceeds from performances are often shared with scholarship funds, health care
and social services programs, and the arts and humanities.
